Commercialisation of vaccines at MSD Animal Health, a great finale of the HONOURs-ESRs courses

       MSD

The ESRs had a fascinating week at MSD Animal Health. Ad de Groof, Senior Project Leader, put on an excellent programme, inviting speakers who covered topics across the whole pipeline of vaccine development.Topics included company organisation, R & D, animal welfare, global disease control and vaccine tenders, upscaling from R & D to production levels, big data for production optimisation, marketing, and even patent law. During the lab workshop we looked at how adjuvant emulsions are made and future possibilities in fish vaccine delivery, and even tried out the IDAL 3G needle-free injector. We closed the week with a lively discussion of careers in industry versus academia, with an open question and answer session with several PhDs within MSD Animal Health.
